Clippers struggle against Grizzlies in 6-1 loss

PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers dropped their second game in a row in the Island pod season 6-1 to Victoria.

Nanaimo was without two regulars in the line up and also played with a short bench against a high powered Grizzlies offence.

In the first period the teams traded goals before the Grizzlies counted two straight to go up 3-1.

Tristan Fraser scored Nanaimo’s goal and Isack Bandu had a goal and two assists for Victoria.

Goalies Jordan Naylor and Carter Woodside were unbeatable in the second period.

Naylor was especially sharp for the Clippers stopping 16 shots as Nanaimo was shorthanded four times.

But the Grizzlies broke through again for three goals in the final frame.

Alex DiPaolo had two and Brady MacDonald scored the other to cap the 6-1 Victoria win.

A bright spot for Nanaimo was the first BCHL action for backup goalie Ethan Neitsch.

He faced 19 shots in a little over half a period of action and gave up one goal.

The shot clock read 56-21 for the Grizzlies at the end of the night.

Tempers flared between the two clubs in the third period with 18 separate infractions between the two clubs.

Nanaimo and Victoria are now 1-1 on the season with the next matchup slated for April 17.

Before then the Clippers will play Cowichan Valley on April 13 and Alberni Valley on April 15.
