Nanaimo couple welcomes Island’s first baby of 2021

NANAIMO — Vancouver Island’s first baby of the year arrived at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Gerald Patrick Doughty was born at 1:54 a.m. on Jan 1 to parents Taylor and Chris of Nanaimo, according to an Island Health statement.

Gerald Doughty weighed in at 9.7 lbs.

He’s the first boy born in the province in 2021 and is the couple’s second child.

The first baby to enter the world in B.C. in 2021 occurred at Women’s Hospital in Vancouver at 12:21 a.m.
