Wellington Secondary, Forest Park elementary report COVID-19 exposure

NANAIMO — School District 68 is back on Island Health’s COVID-19 exposures list.

The district announced late Sunday, Dec. 6 there was an exposure at Wellington Secondary school Dec. 3 and Dec. 4, with a separate event at Forest Park elementary Nov. 30 through Dec. 4.

The people involved are currently isolating and Island Health is continuing contact tracing efforts. Anyone identified as a potential exposure to the case will be told to remain home and isolate.

An exposure is defined as one confirmed case who did not have symptoms and attended the school during an infectious period.

The news comes after the District had several exposures and clusters confirmed within a two week time span, with three secondary and two elementary schools affected.

Through November, Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools dealt with 22 exposure events across the district.

Dover Bay and John Barsby Secondary schools were first affected, followed by Frank J. Ney and Randerson Elementary schools in Nanaimo. Dover Bay, John Barsby and Randerson were all listed as clusters with multiple confirmed cases.

Ladysmith Secondary was the last one in the district’s run of exposures, however it finished its two week monitoring during the final weekend of November.

Island Health is also tracking numerous school exposures in Port Alberni along with one each in Victoria, Campbell River and on Salt Spring Island.
