Chris Istace
Biography:
Over the years that Chris has spent working, living and playing in the unceded territories of the Coast Salish People, in the Nanaimo-North Cowichan region, he has grown to be an integral member of the community. Originally from Saskatchewan and Alberta, Chris worked in the oil and gas industry and as a city councillor in Estevan, Saskatchewan. Now a business owner and community advocate in Chemainus, and Director of the Cowichan Trail Stewards Society, Chris brings with him an intimate understanding of the value of a sustainable economy.
As an avid mountain biker, mountaineer, and photographer, Chris mentors and inspires many within our community to be mindful and cognisant of the value of our natural spaces. As such, he champions the “Right to Roam”, to ensure that everyone can continue to access wilderness areas on public land. Chris is also a strong voice for sustainable use of these public lands to ensure that they are maintained for future generations. He continues to work with various organizations and levels of government to advocate for his community.
