8,000 sq. ft. expansion at Country Club Centre to bring cannabis store, Triple-O’s restaurant

NANAIMO — More retail space is inbound for a mid-Nanaimo mall.

Country Club Centre is expanding with an additional 8,000 square feet of retail space, currently being sectioned off in the parking lot near Original Joe’s restaurant.

Dave Mills, property manager of Country Club Centre, confirmed to NanaimoNewsNOW a BC Cannabis Store and Triple-O’s restaurant will be built, leaving 3,000 square feet for other retail opportunities.

He said the expansion is needed since there’s less than three per cent vacancy at the shopping centre.

“There’s not much left, so we definitely need more space in the mall for the leasing we’re getting these days. Especially on the outside of the shopping centre, the more we can have out there the more people want them.”

Country Club houses roughly 50 tenants between the indoor mall and existing exterior spaces.

“The vast majority of our tenants are local owner operators,” Mills said.

Businesses within the expansion are expected to open spring or summer of 2021.

The shopping centre recently underwent a $1.5 million renovation to overhaul its food court, washrooms and kids play zone.
