Novak Djokovic beats Canada’s Milos Raonic in Western & Southern final

NEW YORK — Top-seed Novak Djokovic overcame a couple of scares to beat Canadian Milos Raonic 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 Saturday at the men’s final of the Western & Southern Open.

Raonic, who dominated the first set and was up a break early in the third, had a chance to extend the match, but couldn’t convert a break point opportunity in the final game. Djokovic won on his first championship point chance.

Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., is now 0-11 against Djokovic in his career and 0-4 in Masters 1000 finals.

Still, the hard-serving Canadian showed he could be a force to reckon with at the U.S. Open, which begins Monday in New York.

Djokovic, who is undefeated in this fragmented season, picked up his 35th Masters and 80th career title.
