NANAIMO — An evening trailer fire has destroyed the home and possessions of a man living at a Nanaimo car lot.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue responded to Bouman Auto Gallery on East Wellington Rd., near the corner of Bowen Rd shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night.

Capt. Brian Crips told NanaimoNewsNOW, crews found a fully involved trailer fire adjacent to the building

“Two propane tanks on the front were venting and on fire. Our crew quickly knocked down the fire as well as the fire was infringing on the building, we knocked that down. It doesn’t appear the fire got into the building.”

The trailer was completely destroyed however no-one was inside at the time as the owner was visiting a friend.

The trailer was also packed with personal possessions, which caused extra headaches for fire crews.

“There is a lot of material in there, probably not a good idea to have that much stuff inside a trailer,” Cripps said. “It makes getting out and fighting a fire much more difficult.”

The cause of the fire is not known, however on-lookers believe something was left on inside while the owner was out.

Cripps said fire crews deal with a handful of trailer fires each year.
