Sizeable jump in COVID-19 cases province-wide, just one new diagnosis on Van Isle

NANAIMO — A notable climb in COVID-19 cases in the province were announced on the eve of a long weekend in the middle of summer.

A joint statement from the province revealed 50 new COVID-19 cases province-wide, including one new positive diagnosis in the Island Health region for a total of 144.

Province-wide there are 3,641 COVID-19 cases and one new fatality for a total of 195.

There are currently 278 active cases of COVID-19, a sharp increase from the 242 active cases reported the day before.

“Of the total COVID-19 cases, five individuals are hospitalized, two of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation,” the statement said.

One new health facility outbreak was reported in Burnaby and no new community outbreaks were reported.
