One new case of COVID-19 confirmed for Vancouver Island

NANAIMO — The number of COVID-19 cases on Vancouver Island has crept upwards.

A joint statement from provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix announced the total number of COVID-19 cases within the Island Health region increased by one to 133.

The new case is epidemiologically linked, which means the case is confirmed as COVID-19 but the person wasn’t tested at the time they were ill.

Data from the BC CDC shows the epidemiologically linked case has already recovered from the respiratory virus.

Vancouver Island was considered COVID-19 free on June 4, when the last active case was released from hospital.

A new case wasn’t confirmed on the Island until June 19, then again on June 30.

This new case was one of 12 confirmed on Tuesday, July 7 with no new fatalities.
