Nearly $10,000 raised for Nanaimo SPCA

NANAIMO — The annual Lock-in for Love event brought in a substantial amount of money for the Nanaimo SPCA.

The event looked very different in 2020. Under normal circumstances, community supporters would spend time in the Nanaimo SPCA kennel as part of a fundraiser.

This year donations poured in even without community members locked in for love.

A total of $9,602 was raised, well above the $7,000 goal.

This much money is expected to cover five weeks of veterinarian bills for abandoned, abused or neglected animals.

The community also came out in great support of the Nanaimo SPCA since the COVID-19 pandemic began, with a mask fundraiser generating $13,000.

More than 700 animals were adopted from the Nanaimo SPCA in 2019.
