NANAIMO — The recovery rate of COVID-19 cases continues to inch upwards.

As of Monday, June 15 the recovery rate sits at 87.2 per cent, with 2,395 people fully recovered from the respiratory virus in the province.

With 36 new cases confirmed since Friday, June 12, there’s currently 182 active cases province-wide. There were no fatalities over the weekend, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said.

On Vancouver Island, there remains no active cases since June 4. A total of 130 cases were recorded across the Island, with 25 in the mid-island region.

Dr. Henry said despite the good news, key restrictions on gatherings over 50 people will remain in place for the foreseeable future.

Health minister Adrian Dix re-affirmed the message, saying now is not the time to become lax.

“Washington State over the last couple of weeks has seen an increase, now plateauing but plateauing at a high level. Oregon continues to see significant increases, California, Nevada, Arizona, all of the states connected with B.C. in some ways,” Dix said.

“These circumstances are around us and it’s not because people aren’t striving to do well in those jurisdictions. COVID-19 is a difficult adversary,” Dix said.
