NANAIMO — Another step towards normalcy was taken to help youth eager to be outside.

Skateboard parks within the City of Nanaimo officially re-opened on Friday, May 22. They join tennis and pickleball courts, along with other select outdoor rec options which were opened earlier in May.

City crews had to clear a layer of sand at both Bowen Park and Rotary Skate Park, laid down when people continued to use the facility after the City shut them down in March.

In April, city manager of community safety Dave LaBerge told NanaimoNewsNOW the skate parks were problematic during COVID-19 closures.
