NANAIMO – It’s a script that keeps playing out, Josh Bourne winning a hockey game for the Clippers in the final minute.

He did it Jan. 29 against West Kelowna, he did it Jan. 31 versus Alberni Valley and he did it again Feb. 21 in a 2-1 win over Cowichan Valley.

In the last month he’s also scored a shootout winner in Chilliwack, and got a Valentine’s Day third period winner against the Capitals.

The latest one might be the most impressive.

It was short handed with the Clippers pulling Jordan Naylor to get to five on five.

Bourne’s late tip in kept Nanaimo’s drive for first place in the Island Division going.

Liam Ryan scored the Clippers other goal in their 57th game of the season.

They trail Cowichan Valley by one point, with each team having one game to play.

The Capitals host Alberni Valley on Feb. 22, if they win they finish first.

If not Nanaimo can take over first place with a win in Port Alberni in the regular season finale on Feb. 23.

A sold out crowd saw the Clippers win their final home game of the regular season and move their head to head record against the Capitals to 3-5.

The Clippers had one of the most impressive home ice seasons in their history going 23-4-1-1.

Before the game Nanaimo made off ice headlines with Jordan Naylor being named a finalist for the BCHL’s Top Goaltender award, and Kyler Kovich announcing his commitment to play for Cornell University in 2021-22.
