PORT ALBERNI – Three Clippers had four point nights in an 8-4 win over the Bulldogs.

Josh Bourne led the way with three goals and an assist, Ethan Scardina had a goal and three assists, and Kyler Kovich picked up four assists in the victory.

Alberni Valley opened the scoring on a delayed penalty with a goal by Jacob Bosse but the Clippers countered when Tim Washe scored his eighth of the season on a breakaway.

The tie lasted just over a minute until Stephen Castagna scored for the Bulldogs on a power play deflection.

Nanaimo came out firing in the second period.

Goals by Josh Bourne and Scott Mahovlich gave the Clippers a 3-2 lead but Bosse evened the score with his second goal of the night.

Once again Nanaimo made an offensive push with Ethan Scardina, Robby Drazner, and Bourne on a power play giving the visitors a three goal advantage going to the third period.

Washe added his second of the night in the final frame and Bourne completed his hat trick, leaving Nanaimo’s leading scorer with 28 goals on the season.

A last minute tally by the Bulldogs Caige Sterzer made the final score 8-4.

Alberni outshot Nanaimo 41-39 with Jordan Naylor getting the win over Luke Pearson.

Naylor made two spectacular saves in the second period when the score was close, but his teammates took over and gave him lots of run support in the back half of the contest.

Nanaimo is now 5-1-0-1 in the season series with the Bulldogs with one game head to head remaining.

That’s the regular season finale on Feb. 23.

The Clippers still have a chance to finish in first place in the Island Division, for that to happen they need to beat Cowichan Valley on Feb. 21 and Alberni on the 23rd, and have the Bulldogs defeat the Capitals on Feb. 22.
