NANAIMO – The Clippers got another third period game winner from Josh Bourne and a 37 save shutout by Jordan Naylor en route to a 1-0 victory over the Capitals.

It was scoreless after the first period with Cowichan outshooting Nanaimo 13-11.

The goalies were perfect in the second as well with Zach Borgiel making 13 saves for the Capitals and Naylor stopping 12 shots.

A deflection by Bourne was the only goal at the 10:53 mark of the third period. It was his fifth game winner of the year, sixth if you include his recent shootout winner in Chilliwack.

The shutout for Naylor was his BCHL leading sixth.

Both teams had 37 shots and both finished 0/4 on power plays.

Nanaimo is now 2-5 in the season series, but they have moved to 2-1 on home against against their Island rivals.

There’s one more head to head game left on Feb. 21, also at Frank Crane Arena.

In the division standings the Clippers have narrowed the gap between first and second place to five points and Nanaimo does hold a game in hand.

The Clippers next game is a potential first round playoff preview against the Powell River Kings on Feb. 15.

Nanaimo has won four of the seven meetings this season versus the Kings.
