Clippers weekend wrap Feb. 7-9

NANAIMO – The Clippers last extended road trip of the season yielded two wins and a loss.

It started Feb. 7 in Vernon where Nanaimo broke a losing streak that dated back to 2009.

Josh Kagan had a pair of goals in a 3-2 victory that snapped a streak of 0-8-2 at Kal Tire Place.

Josh Bourne had the shootout winner in Chilliwack in another 3-2 win on Feb. 8.

That victory extended Nanaimo’s overall winning streak to four games, but it did come to an end one day later.

Surrey beat the Clippers 6-5 on Feb. 9 in a game that the Clippers never led.

Kyler Kovich and Josh Bourne each had a pair of goals in the loss.

Nanaimo enters the week five points behind the first place Cowichan Capitals in the Island Division standings with five games remaining.

They can finish no lower than second in the division.

The Clippers next games are important Island matchups at home versus the Capitals on Friday and against the Kings on Saturday.

CLIP NOTES:

Josh Bourne has 12 points in his last six games, and that doesn’t include his shootout winning goal against Chilliwack on Feb. 8.

Josh Kagan has nine points in a six game point streak, and Kyler Kovich has three goals and four points in his last two games.

Devon Mussio was a assessed a three game suspension for a blow to the head major penalty against Surrey on Feb. 9.

The Clippers will open the playoffs with a pair of home games on Feb. 28 and Feb. 29 at Frank Crane Arena.

Nanaimo has committed to 2002 born forward Max Dukovac for the upcoming season. The Aurora, Illinois product currently has 21 points in 11 games with the Chicago Mission.
