CHILLIWACK – It was another night for Josh Bourne to play the hero.

The longest serving Clipper notched his third game winner in four games, getting the only shootout goal in Nanaimo’s 3-2 victory over Chilliwack.

Captain Ethan Scardina scored a power play marker in the first period that stood as the only goal in the game until the third period.

Xavier Henry and Kyle Penney tallied in a two minute span to turn the tables in the Chiefs favour but Kyler Kovich put home a rebound with four and a half minutes to play to force overtime.

Jordan Naylor and Mathieu Caron were perfect in the overtime, and Bourne was the only one to score among the five players in the shootout.

The shots finished 31-30 for Chilliwack with Nanaimo going 1/6 on the man advantage and the Chiefs ending up 1/2.

The Clippers have built up a four game winning streak which has moved the team to within five points of the first place Capitals in the Island Division standings.

Nanaimo’s three game road trip will end in South Surrey on Feb. 9.

They have a 1-0-0-1 against the Eagles so far this season.
