NANAIMO — The lawyer for a Port Alberni man who allegedly assaulted female sex trade workers pleaded not guilty to all charges on behalf of his client.

Stephen Bradley Ewing, 40, faces six charges involving several women for alleged incidents in 2018 and last year in Parksville and Nanaimo.

Bert King, Ewing’s lawyer, entered the pleas at a recent arraignment hearing at provincial court in Nanaimo.

Ewing is facing six charges: three counts of sexual assault causing bodily harm, two counts of sexual assault and a choking offence.

The three newest charges approved late last year relate to alleged offences on June 15, 2019 and Aug. 1, 2019.

Ewing happened to be arrested on Aug. 1, 2019 by Nanaimo RCMP, when the original three charges of sexual assault causing bodily harm were announced.

While tdates have not been established, King estimated the trial would take place late this year.

It hasn’t been determined if the trial will be heard in provincial or Supreme Court, where a jury could decide the case.

Ewing is currently out on bail.

He had no prior criminal convictions in the province.
