Bourne’s late winner lifts Clippers over West Kelowna 3-2

NANAIMO – The Clippers were down eight bodies but still found a way to earn a narrow victory over the West Kelowna Warriors.

There were four injuries and four suspensions that left the home team shortmanned but the players responded to the challenge and earned a 3-2 win.

Steven Agriogianis put the Clippers up 1-0 in the first period with his fourth goal in three games.

But the Warriors took the lead in the second frame.

A shorthanded goal by John Evans and a shot off the goal post and in by Levi Stauber gave West Kelowna a 40 minute lead.

Mackenzie Merriman evened the score at 2-2 from in close in the third, and from then on it looked like the game was headed for overtime.

Josh Bourne changed that when he sniped home a Robby Drazer pass with 22 seconds remaining to give Nanaimo their 29th win of the season.

The goal gave Bourne his 100th career BCHL point.

Nanaimo outshot West Kelowna 29-23 and both teams went 0/2 on the power play.

Jordan Naylor earned his 22nd win of the season in net.

The Clippers next game is Alumni Night on Jan 31. when they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
