DUNCAN – A four goal second period did in the Nanaimo Clippers against Cowichan.

After a scoreless first period the Capitals scored four times in six minutes to take control of the game in the second.

Luc Wilson had two, including one on the power play, and John Lundy and Primo Self had the others.

Self’s was also scored on a man advantage.

Nanaimo pushed hard in the third period getting a pair of goals from Steven Agriogianis to make it close.

His first was on the power play and his second was on a goal mouth scramble.

Each team had six power plays but the game ended with 19 infractions between the two teams in the final 17 seconds.

Four of those penalties were from a pair of fights on the final buzzer involving Devon Mussio and Liam Ryan of the Clippers and Tyrell Boucher and John Lundy of the Capitals.

The Clippers now trail Cowichan Valley by nine points for first in the Island Division and they are 1-5 in the season series with two head to head games left at the end of February.

Nanaimo’s next action is on Jan. 29 at home against West Kelowna.
