NANAIMO – The Clippers had two heroes en route to a 4-3 overtime victory against the Langley Rivermen.

Liam Ryan had three goals in the second period to stake Nanaimo to a 2-0 lead and then to put them back on top 3-2 after 40 minutes.

His second two goals were on the man advantage.

Langley got a second period power play marker from Tanner Versluis and another goal from Colton Kovich.

Late in the middle frame Ethan Scardina was hit into the boards by the Rivermen’s Brian Scoville.

He left the game and the Clipper captain did not return.

Scoville was given a major penalty for checking from behind and a game misconduct.

There was no more scoring until the last minute and a half of the third period.

With the Langley net empty the Clippers hit the side of the goal with a close in chance and then the Rivermen came back down and scored on Jordan Naylor to even the score at three.

Matthew Hubbarde got credit for the tying goal.

At 1:24 of three on three overtime Steven Agriogianis ended the night with a shot that beat Braedon Fleming on the glove side.

It was the 14th goal of the season for Agriogianis.

The win moves the Clippers to within seven points of first place Cowichan Valley with a massive game head to head in Duncan on Jan. 25.

The victory moved Nanaimo’s win total to 28, one more than they had all of last season.

It also kept the Clippers number of home ice losses at four, the second fewest in the BCHL this season.
