Clippers weekend wrap Jan. 17-18

Jan 20, 2020 | 5:14 PM

NANAIMO – The Clippers had perhaps their most disappointing weekend of the season in Powell River.

Losses of 5-2, 5-1, combined with a pair of Cowichan Valley Capitals’ victories, dropped Nanaimo eight points behind the Capitals for first place in the Island Division.

A trio of bad bounces did in the Clippers on Jan. 17.

Steven Agriogianis and Sean Donaldson gave Nanaimo a 2-1 lead in the first period.

But three straight deflection goals, including one off a skate put the Clippers into a hole they couldn’t dig out of and eventually lost 5-2.

On Jan. 18 Nanaimo was down 5-0 before Tyler Williams broke the shutout bid for Nanaimo-born goaltender Derek Krall.
