Urn with ashes inside found under Nanaimo bench

UPDATE: Nanaimo RCMP released Wednesday morning, they’ve located the owner of the urn and are making arrangements for it to be returned.

NANAIMO — An unusual item was found under a park bench on Nanaimo’s waterfront.

RCMP hope the public can track down who left an urn with ashes inside under the bench at the base of Townsite Rd. near the Nanaimo Yacht Club.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said the urn found by a passerby on Saturday, Jan 11 was turned over to police.

“We have checked the serial number with the director of Nanaimo funeral homes and they have no indication that it belongs to them, so we’re turning to the public for assistance,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Anybody with information on the urn’s owner or where it originated from is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
