Clippers drop 3-1 decision to Grizzlies

NANAIMO – The Clippers scored first and had a strong opening period but then couldn’t solve an old teammate.

Steven Agriogianis scored the opening goal midway through the first but it would be the only shot to get by ex Clipper Blake Wood in the game.

The Grizzlies chipped away with a goal from Marty Westhaver early in the second and a deflected power play marker from Henri Schreifels in the third to take a 2-1 advantage.

Bryce Anderson’s empty netter capped off the night for the visitors.

The shots finished 37-21 for Nanaimo with Wood and the Clippers Jordan Naylor both sharp in net.

Nanaimo leads the season series 4-1-1 with three games head to head remaining.

Those will all happen in the next ten days, including the very next game Dec. 14 at the Q Centre.

The Clippers streak of eight consecutive games with at least a point on home ice came to an end.

The streak lasted from Nov. 1 to Dec. 11.

Nanaimo still has a two point lead for first place in the Island Division with a game in hand on the second place Capitals.
