NANAIMO — RCMP have delivered a significant blow to local drug dealers.

A home along Selby St. in downtown Nanaimo was searched on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Police arrested a 27-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman as part of the raid.

Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW officers seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and prescription drugs along with $15,000 in cash. Two unloaded guns in a readably accessible place were also found.

The house was suspected to be actively supplying drugs to dealers, who in turn sold them in the downtown core.

“When our members were there, they were already receiving phone calls from people wanting to buy drugs…that’s how active it (the house) was.”

Police hope the raid will disrupt the local drug trade, at least in the short term.

“We should see a significant decline and disruption in the drug flow to the downtown core…where it goes from there and who picks up the slack, time will tell,” O’Brien said.

The two people arrested were released unconditionally, with court dates pending on drug trafficking charges.
