NANAIMO – The Clippers are alone in first place in the Island Division after beating Alberni Valley 3-1 on Friday.

Tim Washe got Nanaimo on the board with an early goal one minute and 45 seconds into the game and they took that lead into the second period.

A strange goal that bounced off Jordan Naylor and in, credited to Jackson Doucet, evened the game in the second period.

Alberni Valley spent much of the first half of the second frame in the Clippers end but Naylor’s solid play kept the score even.

In the third Nanaimo was dominant getting two goals in a 57 second span from Travis Walton and Washe with his second of the game to ensure a Clipper win.

The victory improves the Clippers head to head record to 2-1-0-1 against the Bulldogs this year, and at 12-6-1-1 Nanaimo has the highest point total in the Island Division.

In the first 15 days of November Nanaimo will play six straight divisional games.

The next one is Sunday Nov. 3 against Powell River.

Both previous matchups with the Kings have ended with identical 3-0 scores in favour of Nanaimo.
