Clippers beat Rivermen 2-1 for seventh straight win

LANGLEY – The Clippers continued their winning ways with a 2-1 win over the Rivermen on Oct. 13.

It was Nanaimo’s seventh straight win and their third in less than 72 hours on the road.

Langley’s Brendan Budy opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first period and there was no more scoring until the third.

Nanaimo ran into penalty trouble in the second period, with a five on three against for a minute and 20 seconds, and then they were shorthanded again immediately after.

Trevor LeDonne was given a 10 minute misconduct as well, which left the Clippers with only five defenseman for parts of the second and third periods.

Immediately after a Nanaimo timeout in the third period Josh Bourne tied the game on a breakaway.

The goal extended his personal point streak to eight games.

With just over three minute left Steven Agriogianis snapped a shot behind Braedon Fleming that would stand up as the game winner.

Clipper goalie Jordan Naylor was selected the game’s first star after making 35 saves.

The Clippers overcame a 1-0 deficit in all three games of their road trip and killed 17 of 20 power plays against.

With a record of 9-3-0-1 Nanaimo is second in the Island Division, two points behind the first place Capitals.

The Clippers have another three game road trip coming up with visits to Trail, Penticton, and Salmon Arm Oct. 18-20.
