CHILLIWACK – The Clippers started slow but poured in five straight goals to beat Surrey 6-2 at the BCHL Showcase.

The two teams traded first period goals for a 2-2 scoreline after the opening 20 minutes.

Jesse Carr scored shorthanded and Brandon Santa Juana tallied for Surrey while Ethan Scardina had both markers for the Clippers, one on the man advantage.

After an early giveaway Scardina was the game’s dominant player finishing as the First Star with two goals and two assists.

Josh Bourne, Tyler Williams, and Kyler Kovich scored in the second period to give Nanaimo a stranglehold on the game.

Tyler Williams added another goal in the third with the Clippers in full command.

The line of Scardina, Kovich, and Bourne combined for eight points in the win.

Williams and newcomer Steven Agriogianas showed instant chemistry as well with Agriogianis getting his first point as a Clipper on Williams first goal of the afternoon.

The Clippers have won two straight games and move over the .500 mark with a record of 4-3-0-1.

Nanaimo will now rest up for a morning game Oct. 3 against the Victoria Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies won the season series 6-2 last year, but Victoria is a much different looking team than the one that won the Island Division in 2019.
