PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers continue to battle in tight low scoring games.

Nanaimo lost 2-1 to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Saturday night despite a desperate third period comeback.

The Bulldogs had a goal in the first from Mitch Deelstra and he added another on the power play in the second period.

Despite outshooting Alberni 10-4 in the second the Clippers found themselves down a pair heading into the final period.

The visitors put on a big press in the third period and did get a power play deflection goal by Travis Walton late in the game to make it close.

Jordan Naylor stopped 28 of 30 shots in his season debut for Nanaimo and at the other end First Star Jackson Glassford made 35 saves.

The Clippers have been in four straight one goal games, and their only other result this season was a two goal spread with an empty netter on opening night.

Nanaimo’s record sits at 2-2-0-1 heading into a home contest Sept. 22 against Penticton.

Last season the Vees and Clippers were 1-1 in their season series, this year Penticton is 5-0 to start the BCHL season.
