NANAIMO – The Clippers concluded the BCHL preseason with a 3-1 record.

Over the weekend they traveled to the lower mainland for games against Langley and Coquitlam.

Friday’s game against the Rivermen went the distance and then some.

Defenceman Liam Visram scored in the seventh round of shootout to gave Nanaimo the victory.

Blake Wood was solid in net for Nanaimo with 34 saves and another six in the shootout.

In regulation time the Clippers got goals from Jack O’Brien and Sean Donaldson.

Nanaimo’s forwards were forced to eat up some extra minutes as well.

Ethan Scardina left the game with an injury and both Scott Mahovlich and Travis Walton were assessed game misconducts.

In the Clippers final exhibition game they lost 5-3 to Coquitlam, with game being played in Delta.

Josh Bourne had two Nanaimo tallies while Travis Walton scored the other.

It was a penalty filled game with several lead changes.

The Clippers pulled their goal in the late going but an empty netter sealed the game for the Express.

New Clipper Scott Mahovlich had the crowd buzzing when he earned the decision in a fight against Joseph Borthwick and goalie Zach Bennett made several huge saves despite allowing four goals.

The Clippers roster is nearly finalized although there may be some extra bodies around in the lead up to the home opener Sept. 6 against Cowichan.

With a few injuries in the group, some players may get a longer look from coaches.

Expectations are high for the 2019-20 Nanaimo Clippers, the task of following through begins Friday.
