Nanaimo RCMP search for violent offender

RCMP are seeking the public’s help in locating a known, violent offender who’s possibly in the Nanaimo area.

Sheldon Hinton, 50, is wanted for aggravated assault charges on a warrant initially issued in Alberta, but recently extended to British Columbia.

Investigators believe Hinton is currently in central Vancouver Island region, and has been in the area for about a week.

“The allegations for the aggravated assault charge is that he assaulted his long term girlfriend,” Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.

Hinton has a noted history of violence and is a trained boxer.

“He’s a large man, he’s 6’3 and about 250 pounds. He has numerous tattoos and should be considered violent and dangerous.”

RCMP say if anyone sees him, do not approach and contact 9-1-1 immediately.
