RCMP leans on public in mid-island homicide investigation

CHEMAINUS —Police hope the public can help solve a homicide investigation involving a 19-year-old woman whose body was discovered near a gulf island east of Chemainus.

Delores ‘Deedee’ Brown’s body was found four years ago on Aug. 29, 2015 near Norway island, about three weeks after she was last seen on neighbouring Penelakut Island.

RCMP Cpl. Chris Manseau said police want to hear any information, even if it’s a rumour or hearsay.

“A lot of times people may find a small piece of information trivial, however that may be the last piece of information we need to solve this ongoing investigation,” Manseau told NanaimoNewsNOW.

The case of Deedee Brown was originally a missing person’s case after she didn’t make it home from a late night of partying with friends on Penelakut Island on July 27, 2015.

Manseau said a multitude of police resources have focused their investigation on Panelakut Island.

“This investigation might have gone outside of that area, but a lot of it has been on the island where she was last seen in July, 2015.”

Manseau would not say if any person’s of interest or suspects were previously identified in the case.

Anybody with information about what happened to Delores ‘Deedee’ Brown is asked to contact the RCMP’s Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers.
