Bastion St. Bridge to re-open with new look and supports

NANAIMO — A major downtown thoroughfare is opening after a construction delay.

The Bastion St. Bridge reopens Tuesday, July 16. It underwent significant upgrades to replace the bridge deck, seismic improvements and new signs for tourists.

The project started in May and was to last until June 28.

It was announced on June 28 the construction would take longer than anticipated, due to the bridge deck being shallower than show in historical records.

The significant maintenance and rehabilitation is expected to extend the life of the Bastion St. Bridge by another 20 to 30 years.
