Canadian pride to be on full display for Canada Day

Jun 30, 2019 | 7:21 PM

NANAIMO — Celebrations far and wide throughout the Nanaimo-area will show how patriotic and fun-loving people in the harbour city are.

The main Canada Day festivities are in Maffeo Sutton Park, hosted by the City of Nanaimo with numerous other organizations.

Throughout the mid-day from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. there will be live shows, activities for kids of all ages and food.

Radio stations 102.3 The Wave and 106.9 The Wolf will be in the park blasting tunes and giving away prizes.

Just a little further up along Nanaimo’s shoreline will be a rocking party for Canada Day in the Bay.

Local band Wise Youngblood will pump up the crowd, along with bathtub races and fun games starting at 1 p.m. in Departure Bay.

Once the day’s activities are over, everyone’s encouraged to head up to Parksville for a dazzling fireworks show.

The Thrifty Foods Fireworks Spectacular starts at 10:15 p.m. after a day packed with events, like the parade through downtown Parksville starting at 10 a.m. and a tug ‘o war contest.

Parking for the fireworks is limited and always fills up, so be sure to arrive early.
