NANAIMO — Police are searching for witnesses after two women were sexually assaulted by the same man on a busy stretch of Bowen Rd.

Cst. Gary O’Brien said the separate incidents happened on Bowen Rd. around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 27.

A 21-year-old woman was walking through the Bowen Rd. and Dufferin Cres. crosswalk on her way to McDonalds when she said a suspicious man approached, grabbed her buttocks and then ran northbound along Bowen Rd.

Just 10 minutes later, a 32-year-old mother pushing her baby in a stroller was also assaulted.

O’Brien said it was the same sexual act of grabbing the woman’s buttocks before running away.

Neither women were physically injured in the assaults.

“Bowen Rd. is a very busy road,” O’Brien said. “There’s lots of vehicle traffic, pedestrian traffic. We’re hoping someone may have seen this individual, if not during the incident, then running off.”

O’Brien said the man may have assaulted more women and they’re asking anyone with experience or information to come forward.

The man is described as either Indigenous and Spanish, standing 5 ft. 6 with a slim build and short hair.

Anyone with information is urged to call Nanaimo RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
