PARKSVILLE — A formal fundraising campaign aims to help add the latest jewel to the crown of Parksville’s waterfront.

The Parksville Beach Festival Society launched a capital campaign to raise $1.2 million for a performance stage, dubbed The Outdoor Theatre for the Performing Arts, at the Community Beach.

The project involves a fully covered stage with accessible ramps and a storage room.

Society president Cheryl Dill said grants were applied for to help shoulder the costs of the initiative and the stage is anticipated to be built by next year.

The campaign begins shortly before an awareness day at the Community Park on Saturday, May 25 between 3 and 5 p.m.

People can donate and learn more about the project at parksvilleoutdoortheatre.ca.

Dill said the Parksville Beach Festival Society has donated more than $600,000 to local service groups and projects since 2000.
