3 Nanaimo RCMP cruisers damaged chasing stolen van

NANAIMO — A lengthy chase after a stolen van finally finished in the southbound lane of the Nanaimo Parkway, damaging three police cruisers and closing part of the Parkway.

Nanaimo RCMP confirmed many officers were chasing the stolen van after the driver failed to stop for police.

Three cruisers were damaged trying to stop the van before the chase ended in the southbound lane of the Nanaimo Pwy. just north of the Mostar Rd. intersection. No officers were injured in the chase.

The male driver had warrants out for his arrest and is currently in jail. The woman passenger is also in jail.

Southbound traffic stretches back several kilometres as police work at the scene.

Traffic is moving in all other directions, though northbound on the Nanaimo Pwy. is slow.
