COQUITLAM — The Clippers dropped a 5-2 decision to the Express on Sunday afternoon.

It was a tight game for 40 minutes until Coquitlam broke through with three goals in the third period.

The only goal in the first period was shot from left side by Chase Danol that beat Jordan Naylor up high.

Ethan Scardina tied the game for the Clippers in the second period on a shot from the right wing that wasn’t initially called a goal.

After a stoppage in play the officials reviewed the play and Scardina was credited with his sixth of the season.

Dallas Farrell put Coquitlam back in front a couple of minutes later with his shot from the slot.

In the final minute of the second period Gunnar Wegleitner scored on a long range wrist shot on a Nanaimo power play to even the score before the intermission.

The Express tallied the only three goals of the third from Jordan Schulting, Connor Gregga, and Christian Sanda on the power play to secure the win.

The loss snapped the Clippers three game winning streak as they now prepare for a trio of home games next week.

Coquitlam outshot Nanaimo 38-25 and the power plays finished four to three in favour of the Express.

Sunday’s Three Stars were Pita Walton (2a), Jordan Schulting (1g), and Gunnar Wegleitner (1g).

Nanaimo’s next game is Wednesday at home against the Victoria Grizzlies.
