End of an Era: Nanaimo Sears officially closes

NANAIMO — A longtime Nanaimo department store has opened its doors one last time.

Staff at the Nanaimo Sears Canada location confirmed Monday, Jan. 8 was the final day the department store would be open at Nanaimo North Town Centre.

The store was busy as shoppers stripped heavily reduced items from lightly stocked racks and shelves.

Sears Canada stated online it’s winding down operations and shopping is no longer available online.

In June, Sears Canada announced plans to close 59 stores across the country. More than 4,000 Sears employees have since been affected under a court-supervised restructuring.
