The Nanaimo Timbermen are celebrating the 60th anniversary of their 1956 Mann Cup championship Saturday at Frank Crane Arena.

Team President Chris Bowman says there will be alumni from the ’56 team on hand as well as Hall of Fame Broadcaster Jim Robson.

“We have the Junior A’s playing at 2pm and the Senior A’s playing that night, we’ll have the Mann Cup on hand, there’s a tailgate party there in between games to meet all the Junior players but also to get your picture taken with the Mann Cup.  There’s a barbecue with all the funds raised going to the Salvation Army,” said Bowman.

Bowman says it will be a special day for the entire lacrosse community in Nanaimo.

“We have a full set of replica jerseys that are the exact same as the ones they wore in 1956.  Jim Robson, he’s going to help out and share some of those memories.  He’ll be outside for the tailgate so people will be able to come and talk to him.  Three of the gentlemen that played on that team, there going to be able to come out and be recognized before the game as well.”

The Junior game is against the Langley Thunder and the Senior game at 6pm is against the New Westminster Salmonbellies.

The Bellies will also be wearing replica jerseys.
