Jail term for Nanaimo man reflects fentanyl concerns

Feb 23, 2017 | 2:39 PM

NANAIMO —Police in Nanaimo are encouraged by a nine month jail sentence to a man who plead guilty for trying to sell fentanyl.

Patrick Michael Andrews, 65, was sentenced in court in Nanaimo on Tuesday after being arrested late last August in a bust on Highland Blvd. near Brooks Landing Shopping Centre.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said while there was only a small amount of fentanyl involved, the courts are recognizing the drug is extremely dangerous.

“It’s a significant sentence,” O’Brien said. “It reflects the fact that fentanyl is a dangerous drug in our community and the courts reflect that as well.”
