Apr 23, 2019 | 10:35 AM

UPDATE: The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre reported a pair of missing kayakers were located safely on Lassqueti Island in Welcome Bay on Tuesday morning.

The overdue kayakers were reported missing late Monday evening.

EARLIER — Multiple resources were called out in an effort to find a pair of kayakers reported overdue in the Lasqueti Island area east of Parksville.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria said the missing report for the kayakers was made at 10 p.m. Monday, sending multiple aerial and sea-based resources to the area.

The JRCC said reduced visibility and high winds hampered the overnight search zone of about 300-square-kilometres, but improved conditions were reported Tuesday morning.

The search area involves Malaspina Strait and Sabine Channel east of Lasqueti Island, according to the JRCC.

The kayakers were last seen in a blue, 15-foot sea kayak and a red and white 18-foot ocean kayak.

Boaters in the area were also asked to be on the lookout for the missing kayakers.
