BAKU, Azerbaijan — Canada’s Rosie Maclennan opened her season with a silver medal in individual trampoline at a World Cup on Sunday.

The reigning world and Olympic champion from King City, Ont., was third entering the finals, but moved up to silver with a solid optional routine. Liu Lingling of China won the gold, while Chisato Doihata of Japan took the bronze.

“I think leading into the beginning of the season it was a pretty strong performance, but it definitely leaves some room to work on for the next competition,” Maclennan said. “I think for the next competition I’ll focus on putting a Miller (a triple twisting double back somersault) into my first routine and making my second routine higher and a bit stronger and more stable.

“Generally for the season I think it creates a strong base, and I’m really motivated and inspired by the other competitors so I’m excited to get back to the gym and to get back to work.”
