Fraudster steals $11,500 from Nanaimo banks in Canada-wide spree
NANAIMO — Police are turning to the public for help finding a man who’s Canada-wide fraud spree made its way to Nanaimo.
On Dec. 11 a man fraudulently obtained $11,500 from two RBC branches in Nanaimo. He’s also accused of illegally obtaining $8,000 in Parksville the next day.
RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said this fraud spree started in March, 2018 in Quebec.
“He’s obtained almost $70,000 fraudulently by using existing data from clients collected through RBC. As to how he got that information, we don’t know. In one particular case he actually had the PIN of a client.”
