Flood warnings rising with recent thaw
NANAIMO — With warmer weather and a melting snowpack, the threat of floods is rising in the Nanaimo region.
This morning, Jan. 18, a High Streamflow advisory was issued for all of Vancouver Island.
Daniel Pearce, acting general manager of Transportation and Emergency Services with the Regional District of Nanaimo, said they and firefighters were on the ground this morning monitoring riverbanks.
“With the rainfall, mixed with the snowpack that’s melting right now, mixed with high-tide events, there’s definitely a chance of flooding in the district of Nanaimo,” he said.
