Anne Marie McDonell, October 27, 1956 – July 13, 2026
Anne Marie McDonell passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the young age of 69. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Allan Dick, with whom she shared a love of adventure. Together, they explored much of British Columbia and the Yukon, and travelled widely around the world —visiting Italy, Greece, Germany, Poland, Mexico, and Hawaii, among many other destinations. Much of Anne Marie’s strength and spirit came from her mother, Mary, who was a profound influence throughout her life. From her mother, she learned the value of self-reliance and inherited a cherished love of baking—a gift that brought comfort, warmth, and sweetness to family gatherings over the years. Family was Anne Marie’s greatest source of joy and devotion. She will be dearly missed by her father, Jim McDonell; her brother, James McDonell (Monique); her son, Andrew (Nicole); and her stepsons, Brian (Ben), Travis (Misha), Jonathan (Marisa), and Graeme (Sara). She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Anne Marie will always be remembered for her generosity, positivity, unwavering strength, and the spiritual calm she shared with everyone around her. As per her wishes, no formal service will be held. A small gathering for family and friends will take place later to celebrate her life. Anne Marie — wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother — we miss you deeply and will hold you in our hearts forever. MEMORIAL DONATIONS In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne Marie’s memory to Palliative Care via the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation, two organizations that held special meaning to her and her family.
