Sign bandit serves up laughs at Nanoose Bay pub

Feb 14, 2019 | 3:15 PM

NANOOSE BAY — Normally quiet Nanoose Bay is abuzz with the antics of someone well-schooled in Scrabble.

Letters on the sign for the Rocking Horse Pub were rearranged overnight three times this month. Luise Willoughby with the pub said unused letters were placed neatly beneath the sign and they see the humour in the situation.

“There’s been no damage to the sign, it’s out of good humour, we haven’t been bothered by it at all.”

The sign bandit’s antics have been discussed at length on Facebook and in the pub, with many people curious who’s behind the creative pranks.

“It’s nice to hear of something fun for people to talk about when they’re at the pub,” Willoughby said.

Several other Oceanside-area businesses saw their signs switched in a similar fashion.

Oceanside RCMP reported no complaints from local business operators whose signs took a comedic turn.

Willougby said nothing like this has happened at the pub since her parents bought the business 15-years ago.

“We’re just happy nobody’s offended and if they are to just have a light-hearted approach about it. Who knows when the sign bandit will strike again?”

Those hoping for a head-turning re-appearance from the sign bandit may get their wish.

“We just put up a new sign, so we’ll see what happens,” Willoughby said.
