WEDNESDAY SNOW CONDITIONS: Nanaimo-Ladysmith schools closed for a third straight day

NANAIMO — It’s a third straight snow day for public school students in District 68 Nanaimo-Ladysmith.

  • Environment Canada says 49cm (19 inches) of snow fell at Nanaimo Airport between Sunday and Tuesday
  • Nanaimo RCMP: Snowfall warning lifted for Nanaimo with temperatures expected to rise. This will result in icy conditions on all roadways. Please use caution by reducing speeds
  • From the City: crews are plowing and salting into the residential areas, main roads are clear, side roads are still snow covered and slippery. Please use caution
  • Classes at cancelled at Nanaimo’s VIU campus but the Campus Commons is open
  • Students in District 69 Parksville/Qualicum will be in class today with the exception of Lasqueti Island
  • Nanaimo Child Development Centre – closed
  • RDN Transit – all routes have returned to regular routing today
  • BC Ferries – running
  • Nanaimo Airport – one cancellation Wednesday morning (check with your carrier before travelling).
  • Possible snow in the forecast overnight Thursday, but no prediction yet from Environment Canada as to how much might fall
