BC Coroners hope distinct tattoos will help identify body found on Valdes Island

NANAIMO — The BC Coroners Service is turning to the public for help identifying a body found dead on Valdes Island nearly a year ago.

The body was discovered on the small island south of Gabriola Island on June 23, 2018.

The service shared several key details to help identify the man.

The logo for a California hip hop band Kottonmouth Kings is on the back between the shoulder blades. There’s also a tattoo spelling “yummy” in graffiti-style letters just above the waistline. He was wearing a “distinctive” bullet necklace and big belt buckle.

He wore green shorts, a tartan fleece shirt and a “Donate Life” silicone wristband.

The Coroners Service couldn’t say whether the body washed up on Valdes Island or if the man passed away already on the beach.

This is the second time a body was found on Valdes Island.

A man who’d committed suicide in Surrey was found washed ashore in late June, 2017.

Anyone with information is urged to call the BC Coroners Service Special Investigations Unit or Gabriola Island RCMP.
