Nanaimo RCMP look for details to connect apparent abduction, beating and stabbing

Dec 27, 2018 | 2:36 PM

NANAIMO — RCMP in Nanaimo are trying to piece together what happened after one man was found tied up and apparently beaten, while another showed up at hospital with stab wounds.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said they were called to a rural property south of Nanaimo around 2 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27 where a homeowner found a man beaten and tied up.

O’Brien said the 25-year-old victim of the alleged abduction was taken to hospital for treatment and told police he may have stabbed one of his apparent attackers during the ordeal.

Barely an hour after the first call came in, O’Brien said a 30-year-old man showed up at the hospital with a stab wound.

“He was less than cooperative. He wouldn’t indicate how he was stabbed and tried to say it may have been self-inflicted. He’s in custody but we haven’t gleaned too much from him. We’re at that stage where we’re having a hard time connecting the two investigations so we’re hoping the public can help connect the dots.”

O’Brien said they won’t be releasing the area where the alleged victim was found to protect their investigation.

“There’s obviously a connection between the people involved and we believe this was a targeted incident. There’s no danger to the general public as a result of this one.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
